A favorite stop for fans of made-to-order burgers, hot dogs, shakes, and soft serve ice cream, is The Dairy Bar, a tiny take-out joint in Chehalis, just off the I-5 corridor.
I ordered a Western with the works: quarter pound of beef, American cheese, crispy bacon, fried onion rings, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, chopped onion, and barbecue sauce, on a classic bun.
1 Aesthetics — Appealing to the eye, however, the cheese should be warm and melting on the patty, not cold next to the bun. 6
2 Flavor — A juicy burger with bacon, onion rings, and tangy bbq sauce? Yes, please. 6
3 Mouthfeel — A satisfying bite, but would be improved by leaf lettuce, not shredded. 6
4 Quality/Freshness — Better than average. 6.5
5 Integrity — Structurally sound, although ingredients were assembled in the wrong order, with veggies spilling out under the patty. 6.5
6 Atmosphere — You know I love little burger stands like this. 7
7 Service — A little slow, understandably (made to order, not fast food), but excellent service otherwise. 8.5
8 Satisfaction — Just what the doctor ordered. 7
9 Creativity/Uniqueness — No surprises. 6
10 Value — A decent value at $10. 7
Located just off I-5 Exit 77, this Chehalis favorite is famous for soft serve ice cream, milk shakes, and quality burgers made to order. Recommended.
